Geelani Says, Kashmir
Not Equipped For Armed Struggle Against India

SRINAGAR - The Hurriyat (G)
chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, on Sunday said that the people of Kashmir do
not have the resources to wage an armed struggle against India to secure
freedom. “No country is ready to provide us any armed support, so we must
gain our independence from Indian rule by peaceful resistance. We must continue
our struggle for the right to self-determination,” Geelani said at a
seminar organised by the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat in memory of the martyrs of
Karbala.
“The sacrifices offered by the
martyrs of Karbala should be a source of strength and resolve for the people of
Jammu and Kashmir who have been suffering under oppressive Indian rule,” he
said. “Unless we get independence from India, we can’t establish an Islamic
society in our state. Independence and an Islamic society are the essential
requirements for the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” he said. Geelani
also said that the United Nations had failed to maintain peace and security in
Islamic countries where, according to him, heinous crimes of human rights
violations were being committed. “In India, people especially Muslims, were
slaughtered in Assam and Gujarat,” he said.
“In 1947, five lakh Muslims were massacred in Jammu alone
by the troops of the Maharaja,, the police of Patiala, and Jana Sangh and RSS
workers,” he said.
“NC , Congress and other parties
claim themselves to be protecting the identity of the people. They actually back the forces who
are committing human rights violations in the state. Those who vote and support
these people are answerable before Allah,” he said. He said that the people
should not support those promoting the open sale of liquor in Kashmir.
