Gujjars
call on VC , demand establishment of Gojri Research Centre
Jammu, Dec 28: A Gujjar community delegation of led
by Secretary Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation Dr Javaid Rahi today met
Vice Chancellor Jammu University, Dr M P S Ishar and demanded immediate steps
to establish Gojri Research Centre at the Varsity. The delegation pleaded that
University should implement the decision of its Council meeting in 2008,
"in which a full-fledge Research Centre was approved for the development
of Gojri." The delegation submitted a memorandum to the VC which read that
Gujjar community feels that some forces in the University of Jammu are
deliberately delaying the establishment of the Centre without any reason. The
delegation apprised the VC that the Centre should be established at Jammu, the
midpoint of the State so that the student of other parts of state can study
this subject "but the University authorities are bent upon delay it by
saying that Gojri Centre will be established at Poonch camps 250 km away from
Jammu which is illogical."
The memorandum read that Gojri is
mother tongue of more than 25 percent of the population of State and they are
fighting since 1980 for establishment of Gojri department, on prototype of
Dogri and Kashmiri departments. A statement of Foundation said the Vice
Chancellor agreed with the facts presented before him and assured that concrete
efforts would be taken to establish the Centre. Registrar JU Prof Suresh Padha
who was present on the occasion informed the delegation that efforts are in
full swing to open Gojri Centre, the statement added.
