Students of Zanskar
town of Jammu and Kashmir, where curfew had been imposed a few days ago after
clashes between two communities, on Sunday held protests in Jammu against
alleged use of force during curfew.
Over 200 students held protests against the government for its alleged failure to handle the situation in the Buddhist-dominated town, where clashes between two communities had resulted in injuries to three persons, including a senior official.
Raising slogans for peace, the students threatened to launch agitation to support their relatives in Zanskar.
“We don’t know about our families. They are being threatened. Force has been used on them. We protest over it,” one Nawang said.
Curfew was clamped in Zanskar town of Kargil district on October 24 after three people were injured in inter-community clashes.
Demand for hike in relief
Panun Kashmir, an organisation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, on Sunday threatened to intensify its struggle if its demand for a hike in monthly relief amount for the community was not met immediately.
The organisation would stage sit-ins to mount pressure on the government to fulfil its demand, Panun Kashmir head Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo said.
The decision to increase the relief, already taken by the state government, was now before the Centre, Chrungoo said.
