It will trigger new era of violence: Malik
Srinagar, Nov 22: JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik Thursday warned of disastrous consequences and a new era of violence in Kashmir if New Delhi decides to execute the Parliament attack convict Muhammad Afzal Guru. “After hanging Ajmal Kasab, BJP has intensified pressure demanding hanging of Afzal Guru. Even some Congress leaders have joined the bandwagon sparking serious concern among Kashmiris,” said Malik in a statement, adding that “history is witness to the fact that Kashmiris were never in favour of any kind of violence but when Government of India hanged Muhammad Maqbool Bhat in 1984, it changed their (Kashmiris’) mindset. It is now history that how Kashmiris followed their martyred leader and sacrificed tens of thousands of their people in the way of freedom.”
“Kashmiris in 2008 transformed themselves from violence to non-violence and if decision to hang Afzal Guru is taken, it will cast a serious dent in this process of positive transformation and a new era of violence may start in Kashmir,” Malik said, adding that to score political points in coming elections political leadership in New Delhi are mounting pressure for hanging Guru. Malik hoped that wisdom should prevail and no such decision should be taken that might put the peace, stability, prosperity and welfare of the people in danger. Meanwhile, Malik, according to a Front spokesman, telephoned several Indian civil society leaders regarding the matter and informed them about the concerns of the people of Kashmir in this regard.
